Google Software Engineer L3 Interview Experience | Bangalore | Offer

Anonymous1 week ago

I was working as a Senior Software Developer at a service-based company with around 3 years of experience when I got another opportunity to interview with Google.

I had interviewed with Google previously through a referral. Although my onsite feedback was positive, the hiring freeze meant things didn't move forward at that time. When the recruiter contacted me again, they decided to skip the phone interview based on my previous feedback.

I requested a few weeks to prepare, and the recruiter kindly accommodated that. The process consisted of four onsite interviews.

Round 1: Coding

Duration: 45 minutes

The questions focused on Depth-First Search (DFS), Breadth-First Search (BFS), and hash tables.

After the interviewer explained the problem, I discussed my approach, wrote the code, and walked through the test cases. I also explained the time complexity and answered two follow-up questions. I had to implement one follow-up and explain my approach for the other.

The round went well, and I felt confident about my performance.

Round 2: Coding

Duration: 45 minutes

This round focused on sliding window techniques, strings, and hash tables.

I solved the initial question quickly and handled the first follow-up by explaining and implementing my approach. For the second follow-up, I initially considered a brute-force solution but eventually worked out a more efficient approach.

The interviewer also asked how I would adapt the solution for different input formats. Overall, it was a positive round.

Round 3: Coding

Duration: 45 minutes

This was the most challenging coding round, covering BFS, heaps, matrices, and arrays.

I struggled initially, but a hint from the interviewer helped me reach the right approach. I implemented the solution, tested it with sample cases, and made the necessary changes.

I also had to revisit my complexity analysis before arriving at the correct answer. Although this round was tougher than the previous two, I managed to work through the problem.

Round 4: Googleyness and Leadership

Duration: 45 minutes

This round focused on behavioral questions about past experiences, decision-making, teamwork, and hypothetical situations.

I had prepared examples using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result), which helped me structure my answers clearly. The discussion went smoothly, and I felt good about this round.

After the Interviews: Team Matching and Offer

After the onsite interviews, the recruiter shared positive feedback and informed me that I would move to the team-matching stage.

I was asked to provide additional information about my academic and professional background, key achievements, awards, promotional history, and internal references from Googlers I had worked with.

My first team-matching discussion went well. Later, the recruiter informed me that a hiring manager had shortlisted my profile and that it would be submitted to the Hiring Committee for review.

When I received confirmation that I had cleared the committee review, it was a huge relief. We then discussed compensation, and the conversation went smoothly.

Eventually, I received the official offer letter from Google for the Software Engineer L3 role in Bangalore.
