NVIDIA Interview Experience: Platform Engineer | 10 Years of Experience

Anonymous2 weeks ago

Recently went through the interview process for a Platform Engineer role at NVIDIA with 10 years of experience. The interviews focused on Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, platform design, troubleshooting, and SRE practices. Here’s a quick breakdown of the questions and topics covered across the five rounds.

Round 1

The first round focused on core Kubernetes concepts and platform engineering tools. Topics included:

  • Kubernetes architecture

  • OIDC and RBAC

  • AWS workload identity

  • Terraform vs. Helm

  • Argo CD

  • Controllers vs. Operators

  • HashiCorp Vault

Round 2

This round focused on designing scalable and secure platforms. The discussion covered shared vs. dedicated clusters, multi-tenancy, RBAC, resource quotas, NetworkPolicy, EKS vs. GKE, cluster upgrades, Terraform state management, and observability.

Round 3

The interviewer tested practical Kubernetes troubleshooting skills, including resource requests and limits, QoS classes, pod eviction, and enforcing resource policies across workloads.

Round 4

This round covered real-world platform management challenges, such as:

  • Managing multiple Kubernetes clusters

  • Argo CD vs. Flux

  • Detecting and handling configuration drift

  • Helm-based deployments

  • Building developer self-service capabilities

  • Maintaining consistent platform standards

Round 5

The final round focused on my overall SRE and platform engineering experience. The discussion included troubleshooting approaches, architectural trade-offs, design decisions, and scaling infrastructure to meet growing demands.

Interview Outcome and Difficulty

Result: Selected

The overall difficulty was medium to hard. A common pattern across the rounds was the emphasis on follow-up questions, such as why a particular design was chosen, what could happen if it failed, and how the solution would scale.

The interviews focused not just on theoretical knowledge but also on practical experience, architectural reasoning, and the ability to handle real-world infrastructure challenges.
