MakeMyTrip (MMT) Senior Software Engineer I Interview Experience | Selected

Anonymous2 weeks ago

I went through the interview process for the Senior Software Engineer I position at MakeMyTrip (MMT). With around 3 years of experience, I had three technical rounds that covered DSA, React machine coding, system design, and real-world frontend engineering challenges.

I’m sharing my experience and the questions discussed in each round.

Round 1: DSA, React and Project Discussion

The first round started with a DSA problem, followed by a React coding task and a discussion about my previous work.

  • React Machine Coding: Build a stopwatch with start, pause, and reset functionality.

  • Project Discussion: Questions about my current project, responsibilities, features I had developed, and the technical decisions I made.

This round focused on problem-solving, React fundamentals, and my practical development experience.

Round 2: High-Level Design and React Machine Coding

The second round focused on frontend architecture and handling API requests efficiently.

I was asked to explain the high-level architecture of my current project using Excalidraw. I had around 15-20 minutes to describe the major components, their responsibilities, and how they interacted.

The coding task was to build a search feature in React with debouncing and AbortController. The requirements included API integration, reducing unnecessary requests, cancelling previous requests, and handling rapidly changing search queries without race conditions.

Round 3: Detailed System Design and Technical Discussion

The final round involved a deeper discussion of my project architecture, frontend tooling, AI-assisted development, and collaboration scenarios.

I spent around 30-40 minutes explaining my current project's architecture, including design decisions, component interactions, and the reasoning behind the implementation.

Some of the other topics discussed were:

  • Frontend concepts: What is a bundler?

  • Dependency injection: What is it, and how is it used in Webpack?

  • AI in development: How does my organization use AI, and how can token usage be optimized when working with AI tools?

  • Git and collaboration: How would I resolve merge conflicts involving changes from multiple developers?

  • Teamwork: How do I handle technical disagreements and collaborate with other developers?

This round was largely discussion-based and tested my understanding of frontend architecture, engineering decisions, and real-world development challenges.

Final Outcome

I was selected for the Senior Software Engineer I role at MakeMyTrip.
