How My CARS24 Interview Ended in Rejection

Round 1: DSA

I was asked two questions in this round:

Round 2: System Design

Question: Design a Lead Allocation System

The requirement was to design a system that assigns incoming leads to call agents based on their region and available capacity.

Each agent had a defined capacity and a list of regions they served. Every incoming lead included its region.

The main requirements were:

  • Assign a lead to an eligible agent without exceeding their capacity.

  • Release a lead from an agent when required.

  • Retrieve agent statistics, including the leads they were currently handling.

I identified the core entities and outlined the pseudocode for the main operations. I also discussed concurrency handling during lead assignment and ways to reduce agent lookup time using indexing and caching.

Final Verdict: Rejected

The feedback was that I jumped into the solution too early without clarifying the requirements in enough detail.

My key takeaway was to spend more time understanding the problem, asking clarifying questions, and establishing the requirements before moving into the design.
