Anonymous2 months ago

Company: TCS

Status: Selected

Role: TCS Prime

Location: Campus

Applied Through: TCS NQT

Interview Date: July 15

Interview Type: On-Campus

There were two interview rounds in total. The first round was a combined Technical + Managerial (TR + MR) round for around 30 minutes, followed by an HR round.

Online Assessment

Duration: 180 minutes | Method: TCS NQT

The TCS NQT assessment consisted of aptitude, verbal ability, reasoning, and coding sections.

The coding section had 2 questions, with difficulty ranging from Easy to Medium. The questions mainly focused on arrays and logical problem-solving.

I was able to solve both coding questions successfully.

The assessment tested not only coding ability but also speed and accuracy across different sections.

Technical + Managerial Round

Duration: 30 minutes | Method: Offline

The interview started with questions based on my resume and technical skills. The interviewer moved across different areas depending on my answers and asked follow-up questions.

Coding

I was asked to write a program to generate all prime numbers from 1 to 100 and explain an optimal approach.

The discussion focused on how to identify prime numbers efficiently rather than simply checking every possible divisor.

C++ and OOPs

The interviewer asked questions related to Core C++ and Object-Oriented Programming.

Topics included:

  • C++ fundamentals

  • Classes and objects

  • Encapsulation

  • Abstraction

  • Inheritance

  • Polymorphism

  • Function overloading and overriding

  • Basic STL concepts

The interviewer also asked me to explain the OOP principles with practical examples.

SQL and DBMS

I was asked to write an SQL query to find the second-highest salary.

The discussion also covered basic database concepts and how SQL queries work.

Operating Systems

The OS discussion mainly focused on processes and threads.

Topics included:

  • Process vs Thread

  • Multithreading

  • Context switching

  • Basic process management

Computer Networks

I was asked about the networking layers, mainly focusing on the OSI model and the responsibilities of different layers.

Git and GitHub

Since Git and GitHub were mentioned in my resume, the interviewer asked about their basics and common development workflows.

Topics included:

  • Git vs GitHub

  • git clone

  • git add

  • git commit

  • git push

  • git pull

  • Branches

  • Basic version control workflow

Docker and Kubernetes

The interviewer also asked about the basics of Docker and Kubernetes mentioned in my technical knowledge.

Questions focused on:

  • What is Docker?

  • Docker image vs container

  • Dockerfile

  • Why containers are useful

  • What is Kubernetes?

  • Basic Kubernetes concepts such as Pods and Deployments

Projects

A significant part of the discussion was based on the projects mentioned in my resume.

The interviewer asked about the technologies I used, the architecture of my applications, APIs, databases, challenges faced during development, and why I selected particular technologies.

The interviewer also asked follow-up questions based on the features and implementation details of my projects.

HR Round

Method: Offline

The HR round focused mainly on my background, motivation, career plans, and willingness to work with TCS.

Some of the questions included:

  • Tell me about yourself.

  • Why do you want to join TCS?

  • What makes you interested in working at TCS?

  • Tell me about your family background.

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

  • Are you willing to relocate?

  • What is your preferred work location?

  • Where do you see yourself in the future?

The discussion was more conversational compared to the technical round. The interviewer mainly focused on my communication, confidence, career goals, and flexibility regarding location and work opportunities.

Outcome

After completing both the Technical + Managerial and HR rounds, I received the final result and was selected for the TCS Prime role.

The interview was a valuable experience because the questions covered a wide range of topics, including C++, OOPs, DSA, SQL, OS, Computer Networks, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and projects.

For anyone preparing for TCS Prime, I would recommend having strong fundamentals in your core subjects and being completely familiar with everything mentioned on your resume. Be prepared for follow-up questions, especially when you mention a technology or project, because the interviewer may ask you to explain how it actually works.
